Bahowo Lodge is just a five minute car ride from a PADI 5* Dive Centre, (we provide a free, on demand shuttle service between Bahowo Lodge and the Dive Centre for our guests) and a short boat ride from the beautiful islands of Siladen, Bunaken, and Manado Tua. We therefore have easy access to the world-renowned Bunaken coral reefs, which offer some of the best diving anywhere. Lembeh Strait is an easy day trip from Bahowo Lodge which allows for 3 dives in this world famous "muck diving" area. We can arrange the diving (or snorkelling) for you, whether you are an experienced diver or want to try scuba-diving for the first time.

Diving from Bahowo

This can be broadly divided into four main areas; The Bunaken Park islands and mainland coast, Bangka and Ganga islands, Lembeh and Poopoh, all of which are within an easy boat ride. Lembeh Strait is either reached by boat or car depending on sea conditions.

Between them, these areas provide the complete range of diving environments and topography, from sheer drop – offs to sandy slopes. The variety of species of fishes, hard and soft corals, invertebrates and other marine life is truly bewildering, and more are being identified all the time. To name but a few, various shark species, moray eels, sea snakes, turtles, various octopi, eagle and manta rays, barracuda, dolphins, napoleon wrasse, frogfish, ghost pipefish, manta shrimps, seahorses, leaf fish, nudibranch etc etc are regularly sighted. The Lembeh strait alone is world – renowned for its’ weird and wonderful fauna, and the superb condition and variety of corals found within the Park are truly breathtaking..

Dive Operations

The diving service for guests staying at Bahowo Lodge is provided by a PADI 5-star Dive Centre. Transfers to and from the Dive Centre are provided, free of charge, in the Bahowo Lodge cars, whenever, and as often as required. This provides our guests with a completely flexible diving schedule, to dive as much or as little as you wish.

The PADI 5* Dive Centre offers courses for the first time diver right up to Instructor level. All of the Centre's dive boats are equipped with the necessary safety equipment; oxygen tanks, first aid and VHF radio. The divemasters are highly trained, speaking English, Dutch or Japanese, with no more than 4 guests per dive guide.

For more information please contact Phil and Paula at Bahowo Lodge directly.

"We can't thank you enough for making our diving holiday that much more enjoyable through your Bahowo Lodge hospitality. The food was delicious and the conversation enlightening. It was so nice to make your aquaintence. Remember us to the cooks and Aris. The Python crossing the road was one of the highlights of the holiday."

"... Diving here is excellent as everyone says and having been lucky enough to have dived other places such as the Maldives, Mexico and the Red Sea I rate diving at Bunaken and especially Banka best of all. The majority of dive sites are very colourful steep walls, all within 10-20 minutes boat ride, some slight drift but no real current and excellent critter hunting.

Diving with Bahowo was easy. The boats are good, the dive groups small, never bigger than 4 guests to a dive guide and often less and we were always the only boat on any of the sites. The guys on the boats were very helpful and respectful of the kit, which they also wash and hang for you every night as well as doing all the fetching and carrying. Divers here come from all round the world but most are Dutch/German with Brits and Australians making up the remainder but with English being the main language at the centre or on the dive boats. Phil and Paula include daily delivery and pick up from the dive centre at Thalassa and sort out airport pick ups and returns as usual...."
